SELC Lacrosse Division I - What Did We Learn this Weekend?
Many SELC schools are headed to spring break so we didn't have a lot of SELC action this weekend. But there were a couple of significant games. It's also time to start thinking about the divisional races and SELC Tournament seating.

NC State - Did Not Play
Virginia Tech - Lost to Florida State 13-11
Wake Forest - Did Not Play
West Virginia - Beat CCLA Toledo 16-11

In what could be a preview of the SELC tournament final, Virginia Tech lost a close one to Florida State. Florida State pounded the Hokies with 20 shots on goal in the 1st quarter, however the Hokies were able to leave the first quarter only down 4-2. Tied at the end of the 3rd quarter 9-9, the Seminoles won the 4th quarter 4-2 and the game 13-11.
As you can see from the divisional standings only one division game has been played. A lot to be decided in the second half of the season. The big NorthEast Division question for me is, can Wake Forest's deliberate style of play throw a monkey wrench into NC State's or Virginia Tech's playoff plans?

Clemson - Defeated Georgia Tech 12-3 and divisional Kentucky 15-3
Kentucky - Lost to Clemson 15-3
South Carolina - Did not Play
Tennessee - Lost at home in overtime to Auburn 12-11
Vanderbilt - Did Not Play

Clemson rebounded nicely with 2 victories, including a 15-3 Divisional win over Kentucky. Tigers are now 3-0 in the division. Only South Carolina remains on it's divisional schedule and they get the Gamecocks at home, April 8th. Tennessee was upset by Auburn on friday night in Knoxville. I classify this as a fairly significant upset by Auburn, on the road no less. Maybe a bit of a letdown after the big win over Florida last weekend or a case of the spring break fever? Either way it was not a divisional game for the Vols, so expect them to right the ship after the break.
Clemson (3-0) is in the SELC tournament, their seating is the only open question. That leaves a dog fight between South Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt (even with 2 losses). South Carolina has all their divisional games to play. We will find out how good the Gamecocks are in the second half of the season.

South Florida - Lost To CCLA Pittsburgh 10-8

Florida State continued it's roll with 13-11 win over Virginia Tech (see above). The scoring never stops in Central Florida. 18 shots and 9 goals in the 1st quarter for the Knights and they dispatched Pittsburgh 22-9.
Florida State is in control here as a proven SELC power, however Florida (2-0), could be their spoiler. The Gators despite some bumps in the road still have an opportunity to steal the division. But I don't see it. I want to see Central Florida do some damage in the division. They still have a game with Florida, but all the goals they give up really hurts them against high quality teams. We will see.

Georgia - Did Not Play
Georgia Tech - Lost to Clemson 12-3 on the road

Auburn made a statement with an OT win in Knoxville over the Vols. Puts everyone on notice in the division that the Tigers are ready for their divisional push in the second half of the season. This should have been a big weekend for the SouthWest Division, as Georgia and Mississippi were to travel to Tuscaloosa. But it was "rain-out theater" as heavy rain submerged the fields and cancelled the games.
Alabama, Auburn, Georgia Tech and Georgia all remain in contention. Are the flashes that Alabama and Auburn have shown in the 1st half of the season just "flashes" or are they for real? Will Georgia step it up when it counts? Georgia Tech can be a difference maker.
